![]() ![]() I imagine I’ll bounce off again until there’s something new worth coming back for. I’ll check out season 2 for sure, but I’m skeptical I’ll stick with it for too long. I quickly had my fill though, and I moved on. The new season will undoubtedly bring some of those lapsed players back, but for how long? I spent 60 hours or so in Halo Infinite multiplayer at launch and had a great time. It’s not rare for a game’s player count to fall over time, but that’s a big drop, especially for a major release like a new Halo game. The Steam player count, at least judging by Steam Charts, has dropped dramatically from a concurrent peak of 256,619 in November to a high of 10,350 within the last 30 days. But how long will it be before players get tired of those and move on to something else? Quality-of-life improvements will be patched throughout the season. A campaign mission replay option should be added in late August as well. Two limited-time narrative events are on the docket, as well as a new battle pass and quality of life improvements. Three game modes will be added: King of the Hill, Land Grab and Last Spartan Standing. That could mean there’s another long stretch between new maps and permanent game modes being added.Īs things stand, season 2 will introduce a new Arena map (Catalyst) and another Big Team Battle map (Breaker). I say “sort of ahead of schedule” because season 2 is currently planned to run until November 8, meaning players are about to go through another six-month-long season. Forge will persist from the open beta onwards, evolving and growing over time.” “With this approach, we can get the core Forge tools out to everyone quicker while also remaining focused on our core priority of continuing to improve foundational aspects of Halo Infinite. “We’ve successfully had Forge in private flighting with a limited audience for some time, so we’ve decided to forgo a large-scale formal flighting program and go right to open beta,” Halo Infinite head of creative Joseph Staten wrote in a blog post. ![]() That will be an open beta for Forge and not the final product, but at least it’s arriving sort of ahead of schedule. For Forge mode, which was supposed to arrive alongside season 3, 343 has a target release date of September. A new premium battle pass offering known as Blackcell is also coming in season 3, it will cost $29.99 and offer 7,000 COD Points worth of content including a new operator, access to season 3's battle pass, and more, which you can view below. There is one mild bright spot in all of this. The new season will see the return of fan-favorite modes like Plunder, Cranked, and Gunfight, a Ground War variant of Infected, three new 6v6 maps including a nighttime map with NVGs, a new raid, a new spec-ops mission, Warzone Ranked, new guns, new operators and skins (including the arrival of Ghost from the original Modern Warfare 2). After paid DLC started to become more controversial, Call of Duty opted to release free seasonal updates that kept the spirit of the previous DLC packs with premium battle passes to generate revenue.Ĭall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been criticized for its first two seasonal updates, but it looks like season 3 will be jampacked with content when it releases on April 12th. We started getting regular DLCs which later expanded into four DLCs a year, typically including things like new multiplayer maps and a new Zombie map for select titles. ![]() The franchise has been trying to do this since the late 2000s when the Modern Warfare series really took off. Since Call of Duty is a franchise that releases once a year, it is a game that has to be supported all year long to retain its player base. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Warzone 2's season 3 roadmap has been revealed and it's jampacked with content. ![]()
